The first phase of this project was a $3 million, 1,350 m2 laboratory upgrade, which was completed on an accelerated schedule. HVAC system analysis, concept design, and production of detailed drawings and specifications that was accomplished within 12 weeks and construction was completed only 8 months after starting design work. The laboratory contained 45 new full-view fume cabinets. The existing supply air system was also renovated to serve the new lab, and a new VAV fume exhaust system was added. The project won the ‘Special Mention Award’ for the R + D Lab of the year. The project was completed in 2010.
The second phase of this project is a $15 million phased upgrade of the electrical distribution system, heating and cooling systems, and plumbing systems (including water fountains and washrooms). A variety of other updates were completed to ensure code compliance. The project also included complete replacements of fire alarm systems, lighting, building control systems, and labs. This phase was completed in 2020.
