Electrical Engineer or EIT - London

Position: Electrical Engineer or EIT
Reporting to: Project Manager and P.Eng.

Chorley & Bisset is a leading Mechanical and Electrical Consulting Engineering firm. We have offices in both London and Ottawa. We are active in the Health Care, Institutional, Industrial and Commercial building industry. We have been providing consulting services throughout southern Ontario for nearly 50 years. We have an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer or Electrical EIT in our London Office. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting multidisciplinary project teams with all aspects of electrical design for building systems. Systems will include generation, electrical distribution, HVAC, fire alarm, security, paging systems, lighting and controls. You will be responsible for design calculations, equipment selections, and layouts. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to gain experience on a variety of projects and building types in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain design information and quotes, and generate specifications
  • Assist in the preparation of design drawings and schematics
  • Oversee projects during construction; work with contractors and respond to technical inquiries
  • Assist in the development of building service size calculations and equipment selections
  • Assist with generator sizing calculations
  • Assist with feeder sizing and voltage drop calculations
  • Assist with selection of protective devices and coordination
  • Development of photometric (lightning) models

    Skills / Qualifications:

  • Completion of a University Degree in Electrical Engineering (BASc., B.Eng., BESc.), working towards obtaining Professional Engineer designation in Ontario
  • Up to 5 years relevant experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a clear manner
  • Analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Relevant work experience or academic project experience related to building systems would be an asset
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models (ex. AutoCAD, Revit, etc.) would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with engineering codes and standards, commercial construction practices, bidding, and tendering would be an asset.

  • Electrical / Mechanical Designer - Ottawa

    Position: Electrical / Mechanical Designer
    Reporting to: Professional Engineer, Senior Technician/Technologist

We have expanded, with a presence in the Ottawa for the last 7 years, and are looking to grow our Ottawa office.

    We have an immediate opening for a Mechanical/Electrical Designer with 0 to 5 years experience in our Ottawa office. The successful candidate will be involved in aspects of the design of mechanical and electrical building services for health care, institutional, and commercial buildings. Relevant experience should include exposure to HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and/or lighting, fire alarm, power and communications building systems. Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is required.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain design information and quotes, and generate specifications
  • Assist in the preparation of design drawings and schematics using AutoCAD and/or Revit
  • Oversee projects during construction; work with contractors and respond to technical inquiries
  • Attend site visits to complete measurements and investigations of on-site equipment
  • Assist in the development of building service size calculations and equipment selections
  • Assist with feeder sizing and voltage drop calculations
  • Assist with selection of protective devices and coordination
  • Development of photometric (lightning) models

    Skills / Qualifications:

  • Completion of relevant post-secondary diploma in Architectural Technology or Engineering Technologist
  • Up to 5 years relevant experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to team members in a clear manner
  • Analytical, problem solving decision-making skills
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
