Electrical Engineer

Chorley + Bisset is a respected Mechanical and Electrical Consulting Engineering firm with offices in both London and Ottawa. We have an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer with 5 to 10 years experience in our Ottawa office. Within this role, you will be responsible for leading a multidisciplinary project team in design of all aspects of building electrical systems. Systems will include power generation, electrical distribution, fire alarm, security, paging systems, structured cabling systems and lighting. You will be responsible for design calculations, equipment selections and layouts, as well as project management and stakeholder communications for your projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of electrical systems design, from concept to construction completion
  • Prepare or review all project electrical engineering calculations, select all equipment
  • Prepare project specifications and lead a design team to prepare drawings and schematics
  • Project management, including meeting with clients, building owners and contractors
  • Fully understand codes and standards relevant to the project design
  • Work with a team to oversee projects during construction and respond to technical inquiries
  • Responsible for all internal and external coordination, including managing and maintain document quality
  • Fully understand construction project procurement methods and apply that understanding to projects
  • Responsible for reviewing all deliverables including drawings, specifications, reports, and calculations

    Skills / Qualifications:

  • Eligible for licensing in Ontario with Professional Engineers Ontario
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in building design
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • LEED certification and project experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of Ontario Building Code, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, applicable CSA, ULC, IEEE, IES, and NFPA codes and standards

    We have an immediate opening for a Construction Contract Administrator in our Ottawa office. The successful construction professional will be involved in all aspects of contract administration for the construction of mechanical and electrical building services, reporting to the professional engineer responsible for the project design work and the Senior Contract Administrator. Responsibilities will include attending and/or conducting construction site meetings, reviewing the progress of construction work, assessing compliance with the design drawings and specifications, and preparation of related documents including reports, request for information responses, change orders, etc. Our Contract Administration team provides critical professional representation of Chorley + Bisset to our clients on a daily basis. This is a challenging and rewarding position.

    The successful candidate’s experience will include exposure to construction practices, materials and methods, as well as familiarity with construction drawings, contracts and supplementary documents. Experience should also include exposure and familiarity with either mechanical or electrical building service systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, lighting, fire alarm, power and communications. Competency with typical office software, such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, etc, is required.

    Skills / Qualifications:

  • Skilled Trade certification and/or completion of relevant post-secondary diploma in Architectural or Engineering Technology
